Food Specs and Labeling Specialist
The Food Specs and Labeling Specialist will manage all Specs and Labeling functions for Birchwood Foods manufacturing facilities and collaborate on R&D projects as needed. This position is responsible for overseeing all plant specifications and meeting regulatory requirements on packaging and labeling, up to and including USDA approvals as well as other projects assigned by the Director of R&D.
Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for managing and creating internal and external specifications, including inputting and maintaining all information pertaining to specifications in the internal specification database as well as various customer systems.
- Create and maintain USDA sketch and generic label approvals and review artwork for regulatory compliance, including but not limited to retail packaging, corrugated cartons, and internal labels.
- Enter and maintain GDSN information in 1WorldSync.
- Collaborate and communicate with multiple departmental leaders within Birchwood Foods including Operations, FSQA, Procurement, Purchasing, Sales, Product Management, and Marketing to ensure compliance.
- Ability to assist the R&D team with projects assigned by the Director of R&D.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Our ideal candidate will bring the following to this role:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Meat Science, Ag. Economics or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of meat industry knowledge in a production role or related experience, a plus
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office required
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and ask questions as needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
