Maintenance Planner/Scheduler

The role of Maintenance Planner/Scheduler is to improve the maintenance program effectiveness and work force productivity by eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination of labor, parts, materials, and equipment access. This role is critical in helping to ensure the availability of assets and extending the life expectancy of equipment, and therefore aiding in increased throughput of equipment and reduction of maintenance costs. This individual will act as a key liaison between production operations and maintenance


  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System to manage entire work order and preventative maintenance process (work order generation, tracking, completion, and reporting).
  • The maintenance planner is the primary owner of the CMMS system.
  • Support inventory clerks regarding parts requirements (critical spares, min/max, etc.).
  • Plans all maintenance with special attention to regulatory requirements that may apply, e.g. OSHA rules, EPA regulations, USDA requirements, state and local environmental regulations. Ensures all safety requirements are clearly defined in all maintenance planning.
  • Coordinate and communicate with Maintenance Manager and production management regarding the scheduling of planned work and equipment access.
  • Generate and distribute preventative maintenance work orders for routine maintenance activities, and track the overall effectiveness of the completion rate for the PM program.
  • Generate reports for management groups regarding maintenance KPI’s.
  • Ensures the availability of all materials and tools necessary to complete planned tasks in advance by running reports and interfacing with storeroom personnel.
  • Trains maintenance personnel in proper maintenance reporting procedures for out-of-specification findings, and in the use of CMMS software as a maintenance management tool.
  • Reviews completed work orders for completeness and accuracy, Analyzes historical data in order to take action to mitigate reoccurring issues.
  • Updates the CMMS system equipment including machinery data, machinery history, and spare parts lists.
  • Drive a proactive maintenance program that ensure 85% of planned work is proactive.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Management team.


  • 1-3 years of experience as a maintenance planner/scheduler working within a food maintenance complex, or manufacturing field
  • Subject matter expert (SME) level knowledge of CMMS use (preferably EAM)
  • Proficient in MS based software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Functional maintenance experience in a reliability centered maintenance environment
  • Extensive technical knowledge of diverse industrial mechanical and electrical components
  • Familiar with food manufacturing programs, e.g. (GMP, HAACP, SQF etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills
